Representatives of the Pope that is nuncios in various countries of the world, kept up to date what was happening. All important events were analyzed in the Secretariat of State. Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran - Secretary for relations with other countries in the Secretariat of State was among others passing the information. Cardinal Tauran was an outstanding person, highly respected by John Paul II. Sometimes he said to me with delight: "What intelligence! A great Cardinal" and then thanked God that he works in the Roman Curia.
For John Paul II, it was very important to meet with those who directly made political decisions affecting the fate of people, namely presidents and prime ministers of states. He received a lot of information from bishops from all over the world who came to the Vatican on an ad limina Apostolorum visit- scientists, artists who visited the Pope. Every morning he also read the Vatican newsletter with a description of the most important events and selected articles from the world press.
